Peregrination in Pictures

One of several wharfs in downtown Portland
Today we were out and about going to different places.  We visited Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Old Orchard Beach, and South Portland, Maine.  Not much of a story; we were just out to see objects of interest.
There were gratifying vistas of the craggy coastline.

St. Ann's by-the-sea Episcopal Church in Kennebunkport built in 1892.

While we were at St. Ann's, a local recommended we pay a visit to the Kennebunk Franciscan Friary.  St. Anthony's Franciscan Monastery was established in 1947 by Lithuanian Franciscans.

Passing through the stone gate, you enter a beautiful English park with sweeping lawns and gardens.

The statuary was beautiful.  There was a hiking trail that looped around the grounds through the woods bordering the ocean.  The outdoors chapel was breathtaking.  There were very few visitors around, promoting a tranquil, serene setting.

Downtown Kennebunk was full of great looking shops, along with the obligatory tourist outlets.  There were lots and lots of people out.  Consort and I aren't what you'd call big shoppers, but if that's what you enjoy, you would love downtown Kennebunk.

This is one of the views while walking the trail through the monastery.  The tide was out leaving a very spongy lagoon.  D.O.G. took off across the tidal inlet and almost immediately sank into the thick mud up to his chest.  I pulled on his leash at the same time he jumped and turned, so he made it out without any trouble.  He was, however, one smelly dog for the rest of the day!
